![]() ![]() What follows is what screenwriter Philip Eisner described as 'The Shining in space'. It's based on the idea of a space ship, which disappeared just under a decade ago, reappearing mysteriously, prompting a search and rescue vessel to go in and investigate. Event Horizon, which stars Laurence Fishburne, Kathleen Quinlan, and Sam Neill, follows a space crew who investigate a missing craft thats mysteriously reemerged. Whatever direction the series goes, the benefits of paying off Miller’s mystery far outweigh the cons of ignoring it. There's no question it's never going to win awards for originality, or anything else, frankly, but what it does it does well. It would also likely feel disrespectful for the series to avoid addressing Miller's massive sacrifice at the end of Event Horizon, too, particularly if the new crew is trying to access the hell dimension anyway. The original movie was initially a rescue mission, and if the series then staged a rescue for Miller, it would be the perfect way to set up the new cast of characters. Tracking him through new technology or following clues or signs he leaves behind will give the series a through-line to connect it to the original film and provide an engaging story.Īs well as this, not exploring what happened to Miller in the film would be a waste of a strong plot hook for the series. There are aspects of each in the bones of the movie, but it becomes too muddy for any of. Event Horizon couldn’t decide if it was going to be H.P. Hopefully Pandorum will, one day, finally receive the fair recognition and admiration it deserves for being a well crafted sci-fi horror, made in the mold of fan favorite creations like Event Horizon and Dead Space.Even more so than providing closure on the mystery of Miller’s fate to satisfy fans, the Event Horizon show will need to explore his whereabouts for several reasons. I can find no real link between Paramount and Games Workshop nor between the Event Horizon writers and the Warhammer 40K writers. Although, maybe it’s for the best that Pandorum remains as an original, stand-alone work, and not an overwrought franchise. Event Horizon was written by Philip Eisner and Andrew Kevin Walker and was distributed by Paramount Pictures. It stars Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan and Joely Richardson. Before the film released, its production company, Impact Pictures, floated the idea for sequels if the film was successful however, it’s clear that, twelve years later, nothing further is going to happen. Event Horizon is a 2006 science fiction horror film directed by Paul W. From its story, to its design, Pandorum is creative and compelling, and it’s a shame it wasn’t given its fair appreciation upon debut. Welcome aboard 'Event Horizon,' Andersons finest cinematic offering about an exploratory vessel that mysteriously reappears near a decaying orbit seven years after its disappearance. In 2021, where most sci-fi is franchise based, with original IP usually tending to only be given to big budget, successful directors, like Christopher Nolan, and sci-fi horror often being relegated to the likes of z-tier VOD releases, Pandorum remains special and proves that the sub-genre is full of creative potential. ![]()
